Representing a member of the Lithuania’s Olympic national basketball team in pre-trial proceedings regarding competition manipulation

In 2019, senior associate Edvinas Šatas was the main representative of the member of the Lithuanian national basketball team who competed at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and former basketball player of BC Žalgiris Kaunas in dealings with the Lithuanian Basketball Federation and the Hellenic Basketball Federation and acted as a defence lawyer in an investigation regarding competition manipulation.

Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office which initiated the investigation accused the basketball player of match-fixing (related to gambling) to manipulate the outcome of a FIBA Basketball Champions League match. Due to these circumstances, the case attracted a great deal of attention from the international basketball community and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Following a victory in court, the client is free to continue his sports career.
